Maurice was the previous Marshall’s second while the Duke was last in Tehn in person. When the wars broke out and the Duke fled, he left his Marshall in control as if in a state of war. The Marshall however, was killed in a monstrous raid not two weeks after the Duke’s departure. While not a ranking nobleman, as next in command, Maurice took charge of the terrible situation. Several nobles of decent rank could have made arguments against Maurice, now Marshall Vallard, and the new Marshall would have had a tough time with the Duke being absent and unable to defend his appointment. However Vallard has shown time and again to his fellows that he is brave, clever and courageous, but also a true countryman, and does everything in his power to keep all casualties to a minimum.
Maurice is not a born noble, but a commoner risen far in the military ranks for his bravery, prowess and tactical shrewdness. Though now aging, Marshall Vallard is not to be taken lightly. He practices as much as his busy schedule allows and routinely puts his sword arm to the test against beasts and evil men that threaten his people and his country. He is a gentleman through and through, always curtious, polite and the essence of honour and chivalry. Marshall Vallard makes every attempt to show knighthood, true Knighthood is not dead. His greatest goals are not really to restore Duke Enyeh to his throne, but rather to free the good people and lands of Tehn of the monstrous plague that afflicts it. He works to return Enyeh, but not for the Duke’s sake.
